We welcome all of our children to participate in our program of Religious Education for youth.  The program is divided into three parts:

  1. Preschool, Kindergarten and Grades 1-5
  2. Middle School, “Edge” program for Grades 6,7,8
  3. High School Confirmation Program, Grades 9,10 and 11

Students in Preschool (ages three and four), Kindergarten (age 5) and grades one through five meet Sunday mornings at 10:00am.

We cannot overemphasize the importance of Mass attendance as a family-- as the primary educators of their children, nothing better helps form young Catholics than the active participation of their parents.  Mass can easily be attended before class at 9:00am, or after class at 11:00am.

Classes are not held on holidays or long weekends when no public school is held on the Monday of that week, or on school vacation weekends.  For emergency cancellations due to snow/inclement weather, watch NBC (Channel 7), Channel 56, or go to WHDH.com, or watch WBZ-TV or go on-line to CBSBoston.com. Also watch for emails from the parish the preceding evening, or early in the morning, if inclement weather is expected.

Our Sacrament Preparation Programs for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion, as well as for Confirmation, are two year preparation programs.

  • To receive First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion in 2nd grade, students must be registered and attending class/Mass regularly throughout grades 1 & 2.
  • To receive Confirmation in the Fall of 11th grade, students must be registered and participating in class/Mass regularly throughout grades 9 & 10.
  • A child may enter the Religious Education program at any point (and they are most welcome!), but must attend 2 years of preparation before receiving these Sacraments.

For more information on First Holy Communion, click here.

For Confirmation, click here.

Before receiving these sacraments, Baptismal certificates need to be provided by for anyone not baptized at Our Lady of Hope Parish in Ipswich.
